A
New Video about Natural Environments!! "Just Being
Kids: Supports And Services For Infants And Toddlers And Their
Families In Everyday Routines, Activities, And Places" (50
minute Video and Facilitator's Guide)
Just Being Kids illustrates how supports and services
for infants and toddlers with special needs can be provided in the
context of families' everyday routines, activities, and places (also
known as "natural environments"). Each of the six stories on
this 50 minute video demonstrates recommended practices as therapists
and early childhood specialists work collaboratively with families to
achieve meaningful goals for their children in everyday routines and
activities.
Just Being Kids was developed for use in both
pre-service and in-service training programs with therapists, early
childhood specialists, and service coordinators. The video is also
useful for showing families examples of this approach to early
intervention supports and services. The 55-page companion Facilitator's
Guide offers trainers, educators, and team leaders background
information on the stories along with handouts, an extensive
bibliography, and suggestions for leading discussion groups and other
training activities to enhance participants' learning. To

The Colorado Project WIN Resource Guide:
A Guide to National, State and Local resources to Assist Individuals with Disabilities Seeking Employment and Support, is the result of extensive collaboration between Project WIN and the agencies and programs found in the book and with input from people with disabilities. The second edition contains a number of new features, including information on Consumer Navigator services, the School-to-Work Alliance Program, and services and programs arrayed with the Ticket to Work and Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act. There is also a new section on additional resources to access. This online version provides direct Internet links to many of the agencies and programs listed in the
Resource Guide.
The intent of the Resource Guide and this collaboration is to gather useful and accurate information for people with disabilities, agency staff, and others interested in the information contained in the guide. While the primary goal is to provide individuals with disabilities information in order to obtain and maintain employment, the breadth of this resource makes it suitable for an array of individuals and organizations to easily locate information about the various programs described in the Guide.
To update information contained in the guide, provide suggestions of programs to add in future editions, or make other comments, please contact

Introduction to the Denver Model of Intensive Therapy for Young Children with Autism:
A Guide for Parents
A
Guide for Parents provides an overview of the Denver Model for
parents of children with autism spectrum disorders.
The main goals of treatment for young children in the Denver Model are:
(1) bringing the child into coordinated, interactive social relations for most of their waking hours, so that imitation and both symbolic and interpersonal (nonverbal, affective, pragmatic) communication can be established and the transmission of social knowledge and social experience can occur; and
(2) intensive teaching to “fill in” the learning deficits that have resulted from the child’s past lack of access to the social word, due to the effects of autism. The main tools for accomplishing these two major treatment goals include teaching imitation, developing awareness of social interactions and reciprocity, teaching the power of communication, teaching a symbolic communication system, and making the social world as understandable as the world of objects, so that the child with autism comes into the rich learning environment of social exchange. Just as the typically developing toddler and preschooler spend virtually all their waking hours engaged in the social milieu and learning from it, the young child with autism needs to be drawn back into the social milieu – a carefully prepared and planned milieu that the child can be an active participant, can understand, and to predict.
